Which spill kit to use
Spill kits are essential to contain spills – whether acid, chemical or oil – to minimise their environmental impact. A spill response is generally meant to contain or absorb contaminants. So make sure you have a suitable spill kit on hand for potential disasters on site.
Acid spill kits
Acid spill kit must only be used for acid spill clean-ups and not for any other clean-ups. This is because incomplete spill kit will prevent the effective and efficient clean-up of acid spills. A typical acid spill kitcomprises:
Absorbents like ChemSweep in a universal spill pillow or absorbent boom.
Neutralisers like AcidNeutria, a non-hazardous and environmentally friendly solution for absorbing and neutralising acids below 5 pH.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like goggles, face shield, neoprene gloves, corrosive aprons, etc.
Tools for clean-up including plastic scoops, dustpans, bags, buckets with lids, etc.
Chemical spill kits
Similarly, chemical spill kits must only be used for chemical spill clean-ups. Essential chemical spill kit components include:
Twenty-litre (or larger) polypropylene or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bucket with lid
Personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety eyewear, gloves, etc.
Chemical resistant and non-sparking or plastic tools including dustpans or scoops, brushes, etc.)
Inert absorbents like sand, clay, absorbent socks, booms, or pillows, etc.
Neutralising and treatment materials
Chemical-resistant bags
Hazardous waste tags
Oil spill kits
All spill kits must only be used for their intended application. When applied to an oil spill, the spill kit's soaks up the oil droplets through a combination of bioactive and synthetic elements.
Fuel and oil spill kits typically contain:
• AbsorbSweep, a premium natural biodegradable non-leaching absorbent engineered for safe and quick pick up and disposal of various oil spills.
• Booms, socks, or pillows that contain HydroAbsorb, a natural and environmentally friendly absorbent that biodegrades the encapsulated oils.
• Waste disposal bags to hold all the contaminated products from the kit.
• Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including coveralls, PVC gloves, and safety glasses.
